A Wealth of Writing Opportunities
This newsletter is all about writing opportunities, to read for an audience and to follow writing prompts.
SpeakEasy Reminder
I'm fierce excited about SpeakEasy. I've exchanged friendly emails with Patrick Holloway, who I'll be interviewing, and it sounds like he's up for a bit of fun. I'll introduce him; I'll ask him questions and we'll talk and laugh.
If you want to hear me and Patrick talk, and hear the ethereal music of Stella and the Dreaming, come down to Phil Grimes Pub in Waterford City tomorrow night, Friday 21 March, at 8pm. Bring €5 cash in your hot little hand and we'll let you in. You're welcome to listen, but also to read in the open mic.
Photo Description: This is the poster for SpeakEasy, which gives the same information as in my post. It’s a blue-grey colour; there are logos on the bottom and there’s a microphone on the left-hand side.
The Wonders of Waterford Music
Writing for Waterford Music comes with its responsibilities – I wrote an edited responses for our Arts Council funding application, and our form slipped under the digital doorstep last week.
The role also comes with its delights. I was able to attend a concert performed by a Japanese pianist of such dazzling virtuosity that she brought the audience to its feet. I had no difficulty in composing an enthusiastic post about the concert for Facebook the next day.
Writing Opportunity for Young People
It's quite hard to find good writing opportunities for young people, which is a pity, because there are so many talented children and teenagers out there. But Faerie Press, which describes itself as Ireland's first LGBTQ+ children's press, is inviting writers aged 16-25 to submit poetry and stories on the theme of Dreams for its second anthology. Submissions must be in by 30 April. You can find out more about Faerie Press and its anthologies here.
The Prompt – Writing on the Radio
RTE Radio 1 is broadcasting an eight-week series called The Prompt. Writers are invited to submit pieces based on the theme of a prompt provided by well-known guest writers. The programme will be broadcast in late May and writers whose pieces are chosen will have a chance to read their pieces on air. You can find the prompts and the guidelines right here, and you must send in your piece by Sunday 6 April.

Interesting initiative by RTE! I'll take a look, thanks for spreading the word.
