A Writer Reaches Out
This newsletter shows that making contact with people and getting out and about enriches your writing.
A Writer Reaches Out
I know reaching out is a fierce annoying phrase, when getting in contact would do just as well, but I do feel that’s what I’m doing – reaching out to the world around me in order to support myself in my writing. I may be a writer, but I’m also an extrovert, so getting out there will motivate me to write.
Sitting With My Writing Guru
Many years ago, my path crossed with a magical writer who has a gift for filling sagging writerly sails. She’s now a writing therapist who helps people overcome blocks through writing, so I thought she’d be just the person to shine a light and steer me through the writerly fog. We will be communing through the power of Zoom next month, and I will let you know what pearls of writerly genius emerge from our sessions.
WORDS Ireland Event
This Friday, I’ve a bonanza of writing events. The first one is part of Waterford Writers’ Weekend, run with great aplomb by the Arts Office, Waterford City and County Council. It’s an event by WORDS Ireland called The Writing Life, exploring conditions for writers in the South-East and beyond. That’s on from 3-5pm this coming Friday, 25 October. You can get details of this event and all other writing events on this handy little link.
Schmoozing at SpeakEasy
After I finish at WORDS Ireland, it’ll be time for me to put on my MC hat and dine with literary royalty, in the form of award-winning author Danielle McLaughlin. We always take our guests to a local restaurant before bringing them down to Phil Grimes pub for their reading.
After an hour or so of delightful chat, we hope Danielle will be nice and relaxed for her reading, from works such as her novel. The Arts of Falling. We also hope she’ll enjoy the music by classical violinist Nataliya O’Neill, as she told us she loves violin music.
For more practical details about SpeakEasy, have a look at our poster.
This poster says that SpeakEasy takes place on Friday 25 October at 8pm in Phil Grimes Pub, with Guest Writer Danielle McLaughlin and Guest Musician Nataliya O’Neill.
Operation Get Derbhile Out Of The House
Many writers need to be gainfully employed in ways other than for their writing, and I’m currently looking for both freelance and employment opportunities that I can do outside of my home.
Then I can talk to human beings in real life – what a revolutionary thought. I believe this won’t be a distraction, but will give me freedom to write. I’ll be letting you know how this operation goes; it’s already beginning to bear fruit.
