In 2011, my novel, The Pink Cage, was published by a small publisher called Book Republic. A year later, I self-published copies in the hope of making it easier for people to access.
I still have copies left. Make of that what you will. In the last couple of years, through happy circumstances and the unexpected kindness of strangers, I've been able to shift some of those copies.
Here’s the cover of The Pink Cage, designed by Jana Vukovic. It slows a little girl with white hair on a beach, holding a pink bucket. It says The Pink Cage Derbhile Dromey in pink letters.
One copy went to a voracious reader in Co. Meath recently, who texted me excitedly as she was reading it, and then texted me excitedly again when she finished it. This delighted my soul.
Now I want to shift the rest of my copies, and I'm offering you the chance to get a copy for €5 to cover postage. I'm charging this price because I'm being practical. This novel has been out a long time, and it's more important to me at this stage that my words are out there in the world, being read by people.
The central character in The Pink Cage is Astrid, a cranky, wonky-eyed proofreader and DJ. Astrid goes on a ski trip for the visually impaired, and discovers that the lessons she needs to learn aren't just on the slopes. Any reference to my own life is… well, not entirely coincidental.
