I’m adding bulk to my Monday nuggets posts with more bits of news. They’ll be about my own doings, but also about valuable resources I’ve come across in my weekly travels that will help you as writers.
SpeakEasy Open Mic Night
First up, I’m delighted to say we’ve a SpeakEasy open mic event on Friday 26 April at Phil Grimes Pub in Waterford, 8pm. This time we’re not featuring a poet, but a novelist and podcaster called Sophie White. I’ll be interviewing her and she’ll be reading from her work. You can come along and listen to her, and also take part in the open mic section of the night. Details in the poster below.
Photo Description: This is the poster for the SpeakEasy event. It contains the details I’ve mentioned in the snippet, but if you want more info, contact me on derbhile@writewords.ie.
Irish Writers’ Union
I’m grateful to the admin team of the Irish Writers’ Union, who noticed my email address was out of date and added my new one to their mailing list. Their newsletter is full of professional opportunities and resources for writers. But most importantly, they’ll help you negotiate a fair contract for your publication work.
Go onto the Irish Writers’ Union website and you can join their newsletter to find out more about them, including their upcoming AGM.
Exclusive Content for Paid Subscribers
Now that I’m starting to attract paid subscribers, for which much thanks, I’m going to be posting up two posts a month just for you fine people. They’ll be longer posts and some will centre on the craft of writing, while others will be slices of memoir from my life. You can avail of these posts for €5 a month or €50 for the year.
Hit the Subscribe button below if you’d like to do do that. But if you want to continue reading for free, I’ll continue to be grateful to you for reading, liking and commenting.
Writing With Dynamic Business People
I concentrate a good bit of energy on helping entrepreneurs channel their energy and dynamism into creative marketing content that will get them noticed. I had a lovely time working with a highly creative business woman, who was taking the Website Content module of my Bestselling Content Creation course. You can find out more about that course here.
Waterford Music Promotional Content
Waterford Music has a concert coming up on 25 April and I’ve having an enjoyable time putting together social media posts for it, to go out on Facebook and Instagram. Music Network, the organisation helping us to bring the concert to Waterford, provide great promotional materials for us to use, which makes the job a lot easier.
If you want to see what my content for Waterford Music reads like, you can follow them on Facebook or Instagram @waterfordmusic7.
And finally… I was saddened to hear of the death of the poet Michael Coady, widely regarded as the Dylan Thomas of Carrick on Suir because of his epic, tender poems about his home town. I met him years ago and found him humble and generous. My deepest sympathies to his family and his many friends in the literary community.
