My Big Fat Five-Date Play Tour
In which I spill the beans about the tour for my play, People Wipe Me.
I'm a very happy woman as I write this post. This time last year I had a scrap of a script of a play, and a burning desire to get this play on the road. And now I have a five-date tour planned for my play, People Wipe Me.
Mighty crack will hopefully follow me along the way. But it's also fair to say that now the rehearsals are over, the real work begins.
I'll now be starting to promote the five shows and iron out all the logistical stuff that needs to happen in the background to make the shows happen.
Things like the size of the venue and what sort of equipment it has. In order to do the work we love, we need to get our hands dirty.
I'm going to be starting in my hometown of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary
Cluain Coffee Shop, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, Friday 15 July
This will be my debut… eep. And it'll be in front of a home crowd. Cluain Coffee Shop, which is known for delicious, hearty food, will seat around 50 people. I will be standing for the entire show so everyone can see me. Cluain are going to sell the tickets, which I flatter myself will sell reasonably quickly. Afterwards, we'll all enjoy some tasty grub.
Molly's, Clonakilty, Co. Cork, Sunday 24 July, 7pm
Nine days later, I'll be heading west for the furthest destination in my tour – Molly's, a funky wine bar in Clonakilty, West Cork. Again, I'll be standing, and it'll be an intimate environment.
No fancy lights or amplification, just me, my words and my crazy movements. The biggest challenge will be making sure I don't get lost, as I've never been to Clonakilty before and I'm directionally challenged. I'm told there'll be nachos afterwards. Yum.
You’ll see this logo all over my promotional content. It’s designed by the talented Roisin Royce of Royce Design. It's purple and yellow, with the words People Wipe Me written in a childish scrawl, as if with crayon.
Croi Anu Centre, Moone, Co. Kildare, Friday 5 August 2022
Another far-flung destination, though close enough to drive home to my own bed. Mary Pat Moloney runs a beautiful centre called Croi Anu where all kinds of creative things happen.
It's used for creative writing workshops, musical evenings, yoga classes…. and now my play. I don't know many people in the area, so it will be a good test to see if I can make the play tasty enough for people to take a bite.
Coastguard Cultural Centre, Tramore, Saturday 27 August
This gig will be in the town I've made my home, and this will be my most tech-heavy gig. The Coastguard Cultural Centre offers a stage, lighting and sound and I'll be upping the ante for this one,
I've also been told their tech person might be away on holidays – good thing I've a handy husband. My voice does carry through a room, but it's an odd-shaped room, quite long, with pillars, so a microphone will be handy. No food at this one, just plenty of crack.
Raheen House, Clonmel, Thursday 15 September
This will be my second hometown gig, and again I have access to a stage, which will be great. Raheen House is a boutique hotel that hosts arts events from time to time, so I thought it would be a cool spot.
This will be a foodie gig as well, with a light meal afterwards. I'm hoping that anyone who weren’t able to make the Cluain gig will come to this one. Hopefully the tour will end here on a high.
I'll be sharing booking details for all of these dates in the coming weeks. To follow my adventures as I prepare to take my play on the road, hit the blue button now.
