New Writing: What's Your Favourite Colour
This is a post about the really important questions we need to ask each other.
I'm going pure mushball in this week's post. I love a dark, warped tale as much as anyone, but this week I'm all about the colour and the light.
I was eating lunch at a reasonably fancy restaurant. When I say reasonably fancy, there wasn't a tablecloth on the table, but food was brought to the table and you had to sit up straight in your chair. And there were two small children at the table.
Eating out with children can be a hairy business. Reinforcements are required. This time, the reinforcements came in the form of a toy pizza-making kit, which was a great hit with the youngest, a two-year-old.
Asking Important Questions
He delighted in serving us the pizzas and asking us what topping we'd like on our pizza, a chef in the making. As he carefully placed the colourful toppings on my pizza, he asked:
'What's your favourite colour?'
'Red,' I said.
Anyone who knows me will testify to this.
'What's yours?' I asked.
With a smile that came from the depths of his being, he said:
'Yellow.'
Photo Description: This photo is full of round, shiny yellow balls.
I wondered, at which point in our lives do we quit asking the important questions and start talking about house prices?
I'd love you to tell me what your favourite colour is. You can email me on derbhile@writewordseditorial.ie or phone 0876959799.
