Oh! What a Night in Tramore
I celebrate a mighty show in Tramore and give you a glimpse of my final show in Clonmel.
It was a mighty night in Tramore. There's no better way to put it than that. I delivered my show in a beautiful venue, the Coastguard Cultural Centre, to my biggest audience yet. Can't ask for more.
I also performed my show on a raised stage under lights for the first time, which was quite a thrill. The Coastguard's tech guru, Mick Cullen, had everything set up beautifully, and when he dimmed the house lights, it truly felt like a theatre.
Delights of My Tramore Show
I did all my pre-show rituals, then waited behind a cubicle for the show to start. At first, I could scarcely hear a sound. Then I heard a buzz of voices as the room filled up. When I burst out from my hiding place and moved through the crowd to the stage, I saw that all the seats were filled.
From start to finish, the show was a delight. The audience laughed from start to finish. They laughed so much that I laughed too. Especially when The Kind Heckler, as I'll call him, nearly made me corpse. That's theatre speak for when you can't control your laughter.
What a generous audience. They didn't just laugh; as I delivered my words heard them mutter their agreement or give little moans in sympathy. And their rendition of The Fields of Athenry is something I'll never forget.
Support of Waterford Council
The Tramore leg of my tour was supported by a grant from Waterford City and County Council Arts Office. And because of that, the Mayor of Waterford, Councillor John O'Leary, made an appearance at the show with his wife Eileen.
They were kind, courteous and respectful, and they appeared to enjoy the show. Turns out even a contrarian like me isn't immune to a little pomp and circumstance.
Photo Description: Here's me after my show with the Mayor of Waterford, Councillor John O’Leary. I’m on the right-hand side and he’s on the left, wearing a suit and his Mayoral chain. I’m wearing my costume, a tie-died T-shirt and black leggings with pink crocs.
The whole experience was fierce exciting, and the fun continued after the show but I'll say no more than that. If all this has whetted your appetite, you do have another chance to see the show.
Looking Ahead to Final Performance
If you think all this sounds tasty, my final performance is in Raheen House in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, on 15 September. It's another foodie one, with a meal afterwards. It's in exactly two weeks' time and I'd really love not to be talking to myself!
If you'd like to come and join me, tickets are €25 including the meal and you can book your tickets now on Eventbrite – buy them here.
