Past and Future Glories: Clonmel and Clonakilty
I look back on the glory of my Clonmel debut, and look ahead to the glory of my next performance at Clonakilty.
It's nearly a week since my debut in Clonmel and I'm still buzzing, still basking in the glory. I performed in front of a sellout crowd at Cluain Restaurant, and that crowd laughed, clapped and even cried. Words can't express what that means.
Glorious Debut in Clonmel
I performed my show on a tiny island of stage. I had been warned by my wonderful mentor, Angela Keogh, that this might happen, so I just moved with as much energy as I could within that small space.
I am monstrously grateful to the Cluain staff, who were friendly, warm – and made sure everyone was fed. I am grateful to Roisin Royce of Royce Design; the cool look of her logo helped attract the crowds.
And I am grateful beyond words to Angela Keogh, without whom there would have been no play.
Future Glory in Clonakilty
But that glory is now behind me. It's now time to let my swelled head gradually return to normal size and prepare for future glories in Clonakilty. That show too is nearly sold out – there are just a handful of places left as I write.
Like Cluain, Molly's is small and cosy, so again it will be about making the most of the space available to me. Also like Cluain, Molly's are kindly letting me in before the show to do a run-through, so that'll sort out any collywobbles.
Photo Description: This is a pic of Molly's, which has a clean white floor, colourful, cosy couches – and a back wall covered with wine bottles.
The Day of the Show
On the day of the show, Sunday 24 July, I'll be having a bit of what you might call 'pre-compression' time. I'll be enjoying a relaxing day out with the dynamic tribe of women that inspired me to perform in Clonakilty – the Lighthearted Women, founded by the wonderful Anna Healy.
When we come back to Molly's, full of the joys of our day out, the Lighthearted Women will enjoy some nibbles and a drink, and I will disappear to do my pre-show ritual – warm-up, costume change, eating three skittles and listening to Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy.
And then it'll be showtime again. Afterwards, I will fall upon the meal Molly's provides with great enthusiasm.
A few tickets are still available for the show at Molly's. If you want one, message Molly's on their Facebook page or call 0873656826,
A fabulous play, engaging, funny, moving. You are brilliant Derbhile, the audience in Molly's has a great evening ahead.
