I’ve a grand bit of melty-cheesy sentiment for ye this week, as I finish out a whole year of the World of Writing Newsletter. Before I serve up my slice of Christmas writing, I want to thank you must sincerely for following, reading and liking my newsletter. And a big thank you to those who give feedback. It’s brilliant to know I’m not shouting into the void.
Wishing you all a Christmas/holiday season full of peace, contentment, laughter and gifts of various kinds. I’ll see you all in the New Year.
Now here’s my piece. It was first published in the 2019 edition of the Festive Star magazine, which is produced by Waterford News and Star.
Who Says Santa Doesn’t Come To Grown-Ups?
This is a letter that Santa has written to all the grown-up boys and girls in Waterford and beyond.
Dear Grown-Up Boys and Girls
I may not come to you down the chimney in a red and white suit. You may no longer be able to sit on my knee. But I have not forgotten you. I’ve made a list for you, just like the list I make for the little boys and girls. Here’s the list of things I will give you this Christmas and always.
The shining joy on the faces of the little ones
The laughter around your Christmas dinner table
The sacred beauty of a choir singing in unison
The sun shining through blackened trees, showing you that spring is just around the corner
The hand of a stranger, stretched out in friendship
The courage and kindness to leave your warm bed and tend to the broken
The wisdom in the eyes of the old
Words of love that travel across wires
The power to will back angry words and say loving ones instead
And
A chance to spend precious moments with those you hold dear
Take a moment away from the simmering sauces and turkey bastings, and you will see what I have brought you.
Even though you may have grey in your hair and lines around your eyes, I still see the child on you. And I want you to know you can still believe in me. Because when you believe in me, you believe in love.
All my love to you this Christmas.
Santa Claus

Lovely, Derbhile. May you receive all of those gifts this Christmas!
Thank you 😊
