SpeakEasy Poetry Night in Waterford
This week’s nugget is about a tasty poetry and spoken word event happening on Friday night.
SpeakEasy is a high-quality poetry and open mic event that has been running in Waterford since September of last year. I’m involved in running it, but that’s not why I’m saying it’s high quality. It appears other people agree too, judging by the audiences we attract.
Our next SpeakEasy is this coming Friday, 24 November. It’s on in Phil Grimes Pub at 8pm. We’ll be featuring poet Victoria Kennefick, who has attracted a lot of critical acclaim in recent years for her collection, Eat Or We Both Starve. She’ll be reading from that and from her new collection, Egg/Shell, on the night.
Photo Description: This is the poster for SpeakEasy, which is grey/blue in colour with a mix of black and white writing. It contains all the information I gvae you in this pst - time, place, admission fee, featured poet and musician.
We’ll have some jazz accompaniment for Victoria in the form of local jazz trio Jazzabel, with their trademark bossa nova sound. And local writers will have the chance to strut their stuff in the open mic section, MCed by moi.
We’re honoured to receive sponsorship from the Arts Office, Waterford City and County Council, which enables us to bring the cream of literary talent to Waterford. If you want to come along, simply turn up at the door and pay €5 cash. We welcome visitors from near and far.
