Thurles Is Off - But Kill Lies Ahead
Oh, and I got nominated for an award.
So far, the People Wipe Me train has run very smoothly. But this week it came off the rails a little bit.
I took a notion yesterday to ring the Source Arts Centre in Thurles to see how ticket sales had been sold. And the answer was…
… Six.
Well, that was the end of that. Six people in a coffee shop, fair enough. Six people in a cavernous theatre? Quite the soul suck.
And that's before you factor in the two-bus odyssey to Thurles, and the long journey home on the Husband Express.
So, I pulled the plug.
Kill Lies Ahead
All the more reason to make sure my Kill show goes with a bang. It's a mere three weeks away, and it'll help me put the People Wipe Me train back on the tracks.
The show is this day three weeks, on Thursday 23 February, at the Gealach Gorm Theatre, run by the wonderful Angela Mulcahy. This will be the last-ever performance of People Wipe Me and I'm determined to go out on a high.
Angela will be putting up the Eventbrite link soon, and I'll be plastering it everywhere. But if you'd like me to send you those ticket details, email derbhile@writewordseditorial.ie.
Award Nomination
You'll also be getting the chance to see an award-nominated play. Waterford News and Star theatre critic Pat McEvoy included People Wipe Me in his Green Room Theatre Awards list.
It's in the Best New Play category. And James Power of Stagemad who's working with me on my 2023 People Wipe Me tour, is nominated for about a squillion of these categories, so well done to him.
Pic shows the listing for People Wipe Me in the News and Star newspaper, with a yellow circle around it. Kindly sent on to me by mi friend and fellow nominee Clare Smith.
I'll also be keeping busy with the Speak Up spoken word workshop I mentioned to you a couple of weeks ago. It's this Saturday and there are still places left.
The workshop will help people experience the joy and power of performing your writing. You can book with Deborah on 0860648970.
So, that's it. A few bumps along the tracks this week, but the train rolls on.
