So, here's what happened at my show in Molly's of Clonakilty – it's captured in this video.
Can't ask for better than that, can you?
Molly's was a truly lovely place to perform. It had a warm, cosy atmosphere, tasty food and bottles lining the walls – and its own in-house monkey.
Despite its small size, there was lots of space for me to perform. I could strut around wherever I wanted. And they remembered to supply me with my pre-show purple Skittles – what legends!
What I Learned from the Audience
The audience was warm and responsive, and it was another highly enjoyable gig. But again, there were lessons for me to learn. The biggest one was that different audiences laugh in different places, and some people don't laugh at all.
I learned about adjusting my delivery to different audience, and I learned to believe in my words – just because people aren't laughing doesn't mean they aren't taking it in.
And I really felt the audience in Clonakilty connected to the story beneath the laughter, which is very cool.
Plan for Moone Show
And now it's onwards and upwards for my third show at the Croi Anu Centre at Moone in Co. Kildare. I've been forgetting to talk about this one in the excitement and nerves of the first two shows.
But I reckon it'll be third time lucky, as I now have the confidence of two successful shows under my belt.
The Moone show is at a place called The Croi Anu Creative Centre, a place where many interesting things happen, like yoga, sound therapy, creative writing – and now my play.
The show is happening on Friday 5 August at 8pm and tickets are €10 on the door. There's no meal this time, but you can bring your own drinks.
Challenges of Moone Show
This show will bring new challenges for me. Moone is the area that I have the least personal connection to, so I'll mostly be performing to an audience of people I don't know.
But the people I do know in the area have been very encouraging. They’ve promised to come themselves and have also promised to round up a few locals, which is incredibly kind.
Photo Description: This is a pic of the room where I'll be performing at Croi Anu, which has a wooden floor and olive-coloured walls.
I'm keeping my expectations realistic – I'll be happy with an audience of 20-30 souls. But I'm told the room where the show will happen is quite big.
When there's a small crowd in a big room, people aren't as vocal in their reactions because they tend to be more self-conscious. And I’m also told that the room has a soft, creative vibe, so I’m sure I’ll feel at home there, just as I have in the rooms for my previous two gigs.
I'll have to dig deep and trust in my words, in my ability to fill the room with those words. And have faith that those words will reach the places they're meant to reach.
As is so often the case, I expect that any fears in have about the show will be unfounded and it'll be a success in its own right.
I'll share my strategy for promoting the Moone show next week. In the meantime, thanks for reading, and if you've an appetite for more theatrical musings, hit the big blue button.
And if you've any inquiries about the Moone show, contact Croi Anu on info@croianu.ie
Hit a lilac button as I couldn't find the blue one 🤣🤣🤣
