Weekly Nuggets: Hi-Tech/Lo-Tech Writing
Nuggets about writing with – and without – the help of technology
Nuggets For You: Editing Technology
There’s nothing to beat the sure touch of an editor when you’re in the final stages of your writing, but technology can help you along the way too. If you struggle with spelling or grammar, you can use a tool like ProWritingAid or Grammarly to help you weed out typos. They also flag up clunky sentences.
And if you want to write more concisely, Hemingway, named after the famously concise American writer, can give you tips.
Weekly Wordy Challenge
Think of a word for the leftover mementos you sometimes find in a secondhand book – an inscription, a bookmark from a foreign hotel, a heart-shaped leaf. If you’re chosen, your word will gain immortality – in this newsletter at least. If you’re inspired, fire your word in to derbhile@writewords.ie.
Photo Description: A lush green leaf in the shape of a heart. The one I found was a little more shrivelled, but still a lovely find.
And congrats to last week’s winner, John MacKenna of Harvest Press, who came up with airsolation as a word to describe the loneliness of going through airport arrivals with no-one to meet you.
My Own Nugget: Technical Writing and Editing
Though I mostly help entrepreneurial types to write their own content, I do also write and edit contents, by special request. I’ve been working for a long time with a tech company, creating transcripts, editing text and writing blog posts. This company could easily use AI to generate those blog posts, so I’m pretty honoured that they’ve chosen me to write the posts.
