Weekly Writerly Roundup: Delightful Dialogue and Celebrant Celebrants
In this week’s workshop, I celebrate a successful writing workshop for celebrants and share resources for creating good dialogue in your writing.
Successful Celebrant Workshop
I delivered my workshop for celebrants yesterday, to show them how to structure stories for their funeral and wedding ceremonies. We sat at the sort of comfortable table you’d usually find in a kitchen and I watched as they grew in confidence and enthusiasm. I heard the happy hum of ideas being put on a page, and I listened to the stories they created from scratch. As I left, I felt a warm glow.

Publishing Ireland Resources
Publishing Ireland is a voluntary organisation which provides resources for publishers, like events, training sessions and job opportunities. It’s useful for writers too, because it lists its members, which include publishers and literary agents. At the very least, you can get an insight into how publishers operate. Have a browse through their website.
How To Write Convincing Dialogue
Dialogue is a delight, to read and to write. I’m a sucker for a book with good dialogue, and I’ve been known to read it aloud, complete with accents. Writing dialogue is an art in itself, so hopefully you’ll find this article useful.
It’s from Lisa O’Donnell and is published on the Curtis Brown Creative training programme. Her tips include paying attention to the age of your character and writing dialogue that’s close to speech – but not too close.
