World of Writing Newsletter: Cuddies and Cannibals
The World of Writing Newsletter is back - with the Grammar Grouch, WordNerd and nuggets of knowledge.
WordNerd: Cuddy
The WordNerd came across this delightful word during a conversation with people from Northern Ireland. The word "cuddy" is widely used in Northern Ireland to describe a young girl or a small woman.
It's more complimentary than its counterpart, "blade" used to describe a sharp-tongued woman. The word sounds warm, affectionate and cute.
Photo Description: Pic is of a dark haired girl in a yellow dress, with her chin resting in her left hand.
What's On: Finished Two BLAST Residencies
I've now finished the two BLAST residencies I was doing in Waterpark College Secondary School in Waterford City and Tramore Educate Together National School. Both residencies finished in a blaze of glory, with lots of completed poems, stories and plays.
The plays were full of madness and mayhem, while the stories painted beautiful pictures of the lives of the students' family members. Visit my website to find out more about the work I do with community groups.
Grammar Grouch: Eating Your Family
The Grammar Grouch was rather alarmed to read a Facebook post in which the poster declared their love for "eating my family and reading." It took a moment for the Grammar Grouch to realise that this poster was not in fact, embracing cannibalism, but was simply fond of eating, their family and reading. The Grammar Grouch notes wryly that using commas does not appear to feature among this poster's interests.
Writing Resource: Realta Arts and Health
Realta is a new arts and health initiative in Ireland created by Waterford Healing Arts Trust. It aims to raise awareness of arts and health practices and to provide resources to organisations looking to develop arts and health resources.
It promises to be a useful resource for anyone who wants to delve into the world of arts and health and explore opportunities to create meaningful art in healthcare settings. Visit Realta to find out more.
Submission Opportunity: Artemesia Publications
It's always good to hear about a small publishing press that you can approach without need of an agent. Artemesia Press is based in New Mexico, USA, and is currently accepting proposals for books in the genres of non-fiction, YA, genre fiction and children's literature.
Artemesia's core non-fiction list tends to favour inspirational stories. You'll find more details about Artemesia on their website.
