World of Writing Newsletter: Plain Speaking
This is a newsletter for those who like plain food and plain words
WordNerd: Turaire
A few newsletters back the WordNerd mentioned Manchán McGann's book Thirty-Two Words for Field. It highlighted the richness of words in the Irish language, and the WordNerd discovered this gem of a word among them.
McGann described himself as a turaire, someone who doesn't like condiments with their food. If you're someone who likes their food free of sauces, vinegar or any other seasonings, you can now call yourself a turaire.

What’s Going On: One to One Writing With Children
For the past few weeks, I've been working one to-one with a teenager who has additional needs, and a few weeks ago, I finished up my one-to-one sessions with two promising young writers aged 10-12.
Although children thrive in groups of their peers, if you have a child that you feel needs extra attention, for whatever reason, then why not consider some one-to-one writing sessions for them. Here's a flavour of my workshop options.
Grammar Grouch: Speechless?
The Grammar Grouch is struck by the fact that when people say they're speechless they are in fact speaking.
Submission Opportunity: Molly Keane Short Story Competition
It's that time of year again, when Waterford Council opens the doors for its annual Molly Keane Short Story Competition. The deadline for entries to this competition is 22 June 2022 and stories must be 2,000 words or less.
You'll find details about the rules and submission process here. This year you're asked to use the Waterford Submit platform to enter, which you'll access when you hit the big blue Apply button.
Writing Resource: Kindlepreneur Social Media Guide for Writers
The words 'social media' cause many writers to shudder delicately. The Kindlepreneur Social Media for Writers Guide takes a lot of the mystery out of the process of setting up and maintaining a presence on social media.
It breaks down the different social media platforms and gives you recommendations on how to use each one. This will hopefully make social media less overwhelming and help you make smart decisions about how to use it so it doesn't swallow up your life.
