Writing Nuggets: No Donkey Work Here
Monday nuggets about a submission opportunity and my book critiquing service.
Nuggets For You: Okay Donkey Submissions
I was intrigued by the name of this literary journal – Okay Donkey. It publishes a piece of flash fiction or poetry every week, giving you plenty of opportunities to be heard.
Okay Donkey’s submission period closes on 31 March, so you can throw something in under the door if you have a piece ready to go. They ask you to send one poem or one piece of flash fiction of up to 1,200 words. Click here for info.
Photo Description: In honour of Okay Donkey, I decided to put in a picture of a cute grey donkey in a field. It might make more people open my newsletter. We’ll see.
Weekly Wordy Challenge: A Word for Flow
Think of a word for a day when there’s a natural flow and rightness to everything you do. Send your entries to derbhile@writewords.ie.
My Own Nugget: Getting Paid to Read
Tis a sweet life when people pay you to read their books for them. Recently I was contacted by a budding author who has finished the first draft of her book and needs a fresh pair of eyes to help her move her story forward.
I’ll read the author’s book and create a report with recommendations centred on different storytelling techniques like plot, setting, character and dialogue. It’s not an edit, but I will give advice on the language. I call this service Writing With Me. You can find out more about that service by clicking here.
I love the name of the magazine!!! Okay Donkey! I'll give it a whirl just for that! Thanks, Derbhile, for the info.
