Sorry there was no newsletter last week – I was wrestling a beast. Or at least, the modern version of a beast – a computer. I needed to make the jump to a new computer while the other one was still working, to avoid the agony I experienced when I last bought a computer.
I bought a fancy magooly computer with a giant screen, which had better last for ten years. This computer was fierce clever. It detected my other computer and transferred most of my settings onto it, including the settings for my magnifier. Mighty stuff.
The wrestling came when I tried to install new software onto the computer, especially the software I use for my bread and butter transcription work. The computer didn’t like this at all.
I consulted two IT experts. One worked with the transcription company; the other worked for a company that offers remote IT support. The company was Heskap IT in case you’re interested – it can be hard to find good IT support when you’re a freelance.
They rooted around on my computer using the power of modern technology and patiently unravelled the knot my computer was in. They soon had me up and running. Surely the literary masterpieces will soon follow.
I also disappeared into a tunnel of music – there are worse things. My role at Waterford Music, creating content and doing admin, has ramped up. The incredibly efficient committee has finalised Waterford Music’s autumn programme, which has sent me on a pleasing, but slightly dizzying learning rollercoaster.
I’m learning a lot about what goes into printing fliers and posters. I have the pleasure of emailing musicians about their programmes. And I’ve to make sure that all the relevant information is available on ticketing websites and on our own websites.
Photo Description: This is the Lir String Quartet, who will perform with Waterford Music in October. There are two men and two women in the picture and they are holding their instruments. The photo originates from the National String Quartet Foundation.
It’s a good workout for my flabby brain, and I’m happy to get stuck in. It appears Waterford Music are happy with me too, judging by the feedback I received after the committee meeting I attended last week, where I ate scrumptious biscuits and felt truly welcomed into the fold.
And finally… I’d like to apologise to my loyal paid subscribers. I can only say I hit a wall. But I’m making myself accountable. I’m writing a longform piece which will be available to paid subscribers every second Monday. If you want to avail of them, you can hit the button below.
