Great story Derbhile. I love silence but in company, like you, I feel the need to fill the gap when no one else speaks. I ask myself why I imagine it's my responsibility to put the conversational ball you mention into play! I have been told that in Finland people will visit one another's houses and say nothing all evening then go home quite content that they've had a good time!

Oh, that's mental re the Finns. I'd find that quite the mind-bend. We're bred to break silence; it's not our fault. We live in a nation of talkers.
